When I was young, I couldn't care less about the people around me. I don't care if anything that I've done ever left an impression on someone. Be it good or bad. All I care was to be free and young. And yes, being young I mean to be happy always. But as I grow older, I realise how important it is to make a good impression of myself on someone's life. Not until you have to face your manager, and walk away with a smile carved on your face. You just know you did it. You just know you've done something well, and to get a simple 'thankyou, that's great' from your manager is a big thing.

At the end of it, you somehow leave a good impression there. It's the exact feeling you get when you've achieved your goal.

You know, for a moment, I was there and that was after I got back to my desk and felt so damn lousy. The first time I was asked on how to sort copies using the photocopier, I simply replied a simple 'I don't know' and got back to my work. I couldn't concentrate after that. You know why? Because an employee doesn't answer 'I don't know' to the employer. It's like stamping the word dumb on your forehead.

Today was another day for me, though.

M: Dirah, can you help me with this Excel? I need to unhide the columns.
D: Unhide? I don't get you.
M: I want to show all the columns.
D: Ummm, that I don't know.
M: Ohokay, nevermind.

I returned to my seat, feeling the exact lousiness I felt months ago. I opened my Excel and started to 'roam around'. If I want to make an impression to him, the least I could do was to find the answer, which I did seconds later!

D: M, why don't you try the Columns tab and click Unhide?
M: Oh, you're great! Thank you so much. Thank you.

Smile, it was amazing how that could perk up my day. And the best damn thing was, he is the manager from a different department. =)
